Natural Granite: One of a Kind Beauty.

There is a reason natural stone is overwhelmingly popular as a countertop surface: its beauty
simply cannot be replicated. However, the natural elements also create unique characteristics that
are sometimes difficult to predict.

Pitting and Fissures

Many colors of natural granite contain pits and fissures which are natural characteristics of stone.
This can greatly enhance the beauty and interest of the surface, but will also create some
inconsistencies.

Some natural granite colors exhibit these characteristics more than others, and the lighting of the
room can make these marks more or less visible. These characteristics are part of the natural
beauty of the stone and will not impair the durability and functionality of the countertop.

Pits are tiny spaces between the various mineral crystals that are found in natural granite. In the
natural granite fabrication process, an epoxy resin is applied to the surface, filling the small
imperfections and creating a smooth, even surface. While most of the pits will be invisible after
the resin is applied, some small pits may still be visible.

Fissures are separations between the mineral crystals that are seen in natural granite. They
typically appear as a light line across the surface of your countertop. Similar to pits, an applied
epoxy resin will fill the majority of the fissures although there can be a slight indention in the stone
as you run your finger across the surface or shine a reflective light on it.

As you are considering your countertop purchase, keep in mind that pits and fissures are natural
characteristics of stone. While the epoxy resin will cover a majority of them, some tiny pits and
fissures may still be visible in your finished countertops.

Seams

Many natural granite installations will require one or more seams. After we receive the exact
measurements of your space, our experts will determine the best place for your seams.

HEAT RESISTANT

Because granite countertops are so dense, they do not conduct heat well. As a result, you can
place hot pots and pans directly on the surface without worrying about it being burned or
scorched. Granite can withstand extremely high temperatures, so it is ideal for use beside your
stovetop as well.

SCRATCH RESISTANT

Since granite is the second hardest stone in the world, it is nearly impossible to scratch. You can
cut fruit and vegetables on a granite countertop without marking the surface; the only damage
likely to occur is the dulling of your knife’s blade.

EXPENSIVE

Granite countertops are often thought of as luxury design item because of their sleek, elegant
look. They are also quite costly, though the price varies based on where the granite is mined.
However, while it may be an expensive initial investment, granite countertops last for years and
add to your home’s resale value, so you may decide that they are worth the cost.
